Basic question effect of replacing rear shocks

MessageAuthor

1992, non turbo estate, non nivomat, 135k miles. Shocks are not gone, BUT if I replaced rearshocks would it improve car when driving. I have had car for 12 of its 15 years, not used to carry weights , but notice car is a bit more rattly now. Got shock place to check today that rear are not worn. Springs look ok. Any one know what the effect of putting in new rear shocks are, I assume springs are ok. Thanks Brian

RE: Basic question effect of replacing rear shocks

Hi, New shocks in the rear should firm up the tail end. The rattles couls be other things like bushes etc.. Are the shocks leaking, or have they leaked out completely? Des. . . ;)

RE: Basic question effect of replacing rear shocks

I changed shocks and springs on my 945. Take care when ordering springs. From memory springs made for the cars with self adjusting shocks are thicker in bar diameter than the springs made for ordinary shocks. Seems odd but thats the way it is!!!
