TDI Cambelt/pump timing

MessageAuthor

I've just changed the cam belt and pump belt on my V70 Classic, but I could not locate any timing marks for either, so as usual I made my own with a bit of tipex. The car started OK as usual, but it is now a bit hesitant around 2000 rpm when I rev it, my friends TDI revs freely throughout the rev range. Does any one know what the timing marks are for the pump and cam for the diesel engine, so that I can time it up properly and check that I'm not too far out; which I'm assuming I'm not as it starts and drives OK. Many thanks, Jon

I'm open to correction, but I think you need someone with Bosch diagnostic equipment to check this when the engine is running if you want to get it spot-on.

Try and find out which Audi motor it is and go looking via the Audi forums (if they exist) for info.

The timing marks are a guide, the pump timing has to be set with the engine running at a fast idle using a scan tool. What year is the car?

The car is a 1998, the timing for the pump was straight forward as it had a pointer when it was at the right tension. I could not see anything for the cambelt; any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jon

They are not timing indicators. hi according to vardis the second tensioner is for adustment of the timeing to get the desired values. it states that when you have them correct, you then adjust the belt tensioner to the marks and its set up. i did this today dropped the valuse to where they should be useing that method the car runs fine and no starting issues. is vardis wrong? mike
