Insurer for modified D5

MessageAuthor

Hi all. I am thinking of having a rica remap done on my D5. I spoke to my current insurer and after they spoke with their tech guys they state they won't unsure it as the power increase is over ten prevent. Does anyone use an insurer that covers modifications. Cheers. Jiff.

Adrian Flux is worth a shot. They have insured all of my modified motors over the years and have consistently offered the best deal.

Sometimes at the top of the forum screen they offer 15% off insurance for voc members, maybe you can get in contact with the firm, ask if they will insure you with rica'd D5, join VOC and claim your discount (you never know might work out cheaper than a standard D5!). Good luck. I'm 35 and still get my pants pulled down every year for insurance, i'll try the VOC insurance next year! Edit: It came up on screen a minute ago, it was a company/broker called Chris Knott. Hope that helps.

I have used Chris Knott for a few years, they are fine with mods although obviously performance mods do increase the premium. There is another company called "Sky" who do insurance for modified cars, I've not used them myself but a couple of people I know with very heavily modified Japanese cars swear by them. Cheers, John

is it worth informing your insurance company at all? the only way theyd know you had the remap is if they down loaded the ecu, and i cant think of any reason for why they would do this

If you are involved in a serious accident it could cost your insurance company hundreds of thousands or even millions of pounds depending on the injuries involved. You can be sure they'd go over the car with a fine tooth comb for that sort of claim.
